French Horn For All Ages & Levels

Cindy L. Deane has over 25 years of performing, teaching and coaching experience. Her primary instrument is french horn. She is also a lyrical soprano.

Some of her first horn students have become successful professional musicians and music teachers, and have attended schools such as Eastman, UCLA, USC and a Horn Scholarship student at Cal Lutheran University. Many students play in All-State Bands in California and Washington state, perform at Superior and Command Performance rating levels for their local Solo/Ensemble festivals and are members of their local Youth Symphonies, such as San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, Seattle Youth Symphony, and were members of their All-State Bands. Teaching has included kids in 4th grade all the way up to adults. Adult students starting after a 20 year or more hiatus have come to perform with local community groups. She also teaches other beginning brass instruments, and coaches brass sections.

Cindy has a Master’s of Music degree in Horn Performance from the University of Michigan where she studied with Lowell Greer and a Bachelor of Music cum laude, in Horn Performance from the University of the Pacific, Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Dr. George Nemeth and Dr. Jim Winters. She has also studied with Dave Krehbiel, Sue Carroll, Scott Wilson, Mark Robbins, Brian O’Conner, Jim Atkinson, Francis Orval and Andrew Bain.

"Our son took private French Horn lessons. Cindy took the time to help him pick and prepare music for the state's Solo/Ensemble competitions as well as taking time to assist him with the purchase of his own French Horn. She was not just our son's instructor, but also tremendous inspiration to him. I feel that because of the care and time she took to instruct and prepare him, he went on to win several honors with his horn including a Band Director's Award and 2nd in Washington State Solo/Ensemble Competition for a woodwind quintet. He was also Drum Major for the Kamiak High School Show Band during his senior year of high school. Cindy is a fabulous musician and teacher."

My class of second graders waited with anticipation for Cindy to come through our classroom door each Monday. She always came in with a well -prepared lesson which allowed the kids to easily pick up the pre-recorder and find success. She had loads of patience with the children and the class had loads of fun. I would have never guessed the children could pick up playing an instrument so fast. Amazing!

"Great French horn teacher. My daughter had a wonderful experience dealing with Cindy. She is flexible with our busy schedule. My daughter has learned french horn from Cindy since middle school. She is now playing in her high school band and was able to play anything quickly. She owed it to Cindy for having a good tone. She improved very quickly through Cindy's methods of teaching. Cindy is patient and also took real interest in my daughter's ability. I'm glad my daughter has such a great teacher. Thank you Cindy!"

Our child began online french horn lessons with Cindy this Fall. Due to covid, they were not able to start beginner band for middle school in person as planned. Not wanting to lose out on this crucial first year of learning, especially in the highly competitive Texas band atmosphere, we enrolled in twice a week one-one private lessons. Our child has enjoyed their time with Cindy and has learned so much in just the first semester. We will continue lessons even when we get to go back to school. Cindy is patient and kind. We are grateful for this online option, especially this year!
